JLu is Giving Your Juice a Zing with Key Limes!

This week, we are so excited about Key Limes! Let me tell you why...

The sour taste, of key lime, encourages the stomach to secrete digestive enzymes, which in turn promotes more optimal digestion of the foods we eat. At the basis of good health, proper digestion is essential. Even if we are eating a nutrient rich diet, our digestion needs to be strong in order to break down nutrients and utilize them. Juicing offers the unique ability to not only give our digestion a break, it also works to improve it greatly by alkalizing the stomach.

In addition to promoting good digestion, key limes contain a unique flavonoid compound full of antioxidants. One of the most essential antioxidants, Vitamin C is abundant in these little fruits. We all know the hoot about vitamin C, but really why is it so important? Vitamin C travels through the body, neutralizing free radicals, which can threaten healthy cell growth. In other words key limes do a lot of good besides just adding a twist to your juice!

Here's what's in Juicey Lucy's juice this week:
Golden Beet, Red Beet, Celery, Ginger, Fennel, Fuji and Granny Smith Apples, Red and Green Cabbage, Dandelion, Bok Choy, Curly Kale, Russian Kale, Parsley, Carrot, Fresh Mint, Pea Sprouts, Rainbow Chard, Radish, Collard Greens, Thai Basil, AND KEY LIME!

Enjoy the flavors of our unique seasonal juice alchemy. May you flourish with Vitality this week!

Nourish Thy Self with These Super Juices

1) Tomato juice

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which boosts the immune system, prevents blood clots, and reduces inflammation. Fresh pressed tomato juice makes it easier to  consume a higher quantity of this daily essential antioxidant compound, lypscene. Add a teaspoon of flax oil to your juice to aid with the absorption of lycopene.

2) Beet Juice

Beetroot is highly concentrated with nitrates that the body converts into nitric oxide, which is a compound that works to stimulate blood flow. The nutrients within beetroots are most abundantly available in the form of fresh pressed juice. Drinking a single 16 ounces of beet juice a day can significantly benefit health.

3) Pomegranate juice

Pomegranate juice is full of antioxidants. It boosts the immune system, reduces blood pressure and improves cardiovascular health. Research has shown that pomegranate juice increases testosterone, which is essential, in both men and women, for creating a healthy sex drive. Testosterone also reduces stress and improves overall mood.

4) Carrot Juice

Carrot juice is known for beta-carotene which gives the body Vitamin A, B Vitamins, Vitamin E and many minerals. Creating a carrot juice habit will strengthen eyesight, bones and teeth, liver and nails, skin and hair.

5) Cucumber Juice

Cucumber juice helps to flush out toxins, cool the body, aids digestion and contributes to weight loss. Plus it's phenomenal for your skin!

Always opt for Fresh Raw Juice!

If you aren't juicing it yourself make sure the juice you are drinking is fresh pressed so that you are taking in the optimal dose of nutrients and getting the full benefits of your juice.

Be Consistent!

The key to a successful juice habit is consistency. To get the real benefits, you have to stick with it! True health is an accumulation of good habits and it stems from the relationship you build with yourself. At Juicey Lucy's, we believe that you are worth it! We want to support you in your efforts towards your health!

Ten Benefits of a Juice Cleanse and Truth about Fresh Pressed!

Why drink fresh pressed juice in the first place?
Taking fresh organic fruits and veggies and extracting fresh pressed juice, creates a juice that gives the body a potent dose of nutrients. It feels good to know you are doing something healthy and healing for your body. The decision to love ourselves begins with nourishment. Have you had moments in your life when you used your body as a garbage can, filling it with excess junk food? The process of removing all those toxins and restoring health is a gift that reveals itself in the form of better health. If you've had the opportunity to truly cleanse and change your relationship with food, you understand that everything, that enters the body, creates or inhibits our experience of optimal health.

Do you know what happens to your body when you begin a juice cleanse?
By giving your body a chance to rest and heal from nutrient-lacking foods, you are restoring your cells and flushing out unwanted toxins. When you juice, you are virtually separating the nutrient-rich properties in a vegetable from it fibrous material, making it easier to drink in one concentrated recipe. Since you are consuming twice as many vitamins and minerals in one 16 ounce juice than what it would take to digest whole veggies, drinking juice is responsible for:

1) Removing stored toxins in the blood, lymph, cells, organs
2) Hydrating
3) Alkalizing your blood
4) Reducing inflammation
5) Supplying increased oxygen to the blood and cells
6) Increasing metabolism
7) Improved digestion
8) Regaining nutrients
9) Rebuilding healthy cells
10) Eliminating excess stored fat

With so many juice options, why choose fresh pressed?
Juicey Lucy's is at the farmer's markets 6 days a week gathering up 100% organic, local, seasonal produce. Each day, we make sure each juice is made with the finest quality leafy greens and fresh produce.

Fresh Pressed Juice is an art that respects the properties of juice, while recognizing the body's highest capacity for utilizing nutrients. Fresh Pressed Juice does not require preservation, because it understands that the true intention of juice is to be consumed when the nutrients are at their highest quality. Fresh pressed juice is not meant to be consumed cold, after several days of sitting on a shelf in the refrigerator. Fresh pressed juice is best enjoyed a room temperature within a few hours of being pressed so that your body can more easily begin the digestion process.

Fresh Pressed Juice respects the intention of juicing and serves nourishment, vitality and optimal flavor because it is FRESH!

Slow Down, Nurture and Nourish. Love, Indian Summer/Fall

As we move towards Indian Summer (or Fall for those outside of SF), tune into its unique rhythm. Draw awareness of daylight lessening, leaves beginning to change color as they prepare to fall back into the earth. Understand that the process of this season is inviting us to join in relationship with its rhythm. The need to slow down, nourish our bodies and support the liver in its ongoing efforts to remove toxins from the body is ever so important. Just as this season is about tilling the soil, planting new seeds and preparing for new harvest, our body too is seeking a process of renewal.

Late Summer/Fall cleansing is unique. Unlike Spring and Summer when fasting can be beneficial, this is a time for strengthening, rejuvenating and fortifying the immune system. So the question becomes, how do we gently detox without striping the body of what it needs?

Juicing offers the body something fabulous. Fresh pressed juice extracts a pure concentration of nutrients from fruits and veggies. When drinking juice, you are bypassing the digestive process that goes into breaking down foods and pulling those nutrients out to nourish the blood, the cells and the organs. Juice is quickly assimilated and gives the whole body the highest quantity and quality of nourishment.

I encourage you to implement a diet that is seasonal and warming, while avoiding foods that are processed and packaged. It is appropriate and necessary to eat heavier foods such as lentil soups, roots and tubers and whole grains. Adding a daily juice to your diet will increase your nutrient intake and is the perfect compliment to a Fall diet.

Here are some great ways to cleanse this Late Summer/Fall:

1) A one day per week juice cleanse along with a seasonal whole foods diet.

2) 2 Juices per Day three days a week via our JLu2Go/Juice Truck Delivery Program.

3) A 5-10 Day JLu Juice+Food Cleanse with Ayurvedic nutritional guidance.

Take advantage of our 20 years of juicing wisdom! If you want to slow down, nourish, and learn how to best care for yourself this fall, we are here to support you!

In Love and in Best Regards to Your Health!
