Empowered Over Migraines

You are cruising through your week, juggling responsibilities, pushing yourself too hard at times, and perhaps not sitting down to nourish yourself with sufficient nutrients. Your body says, "I'm tired, I'm hungry, I need mental calm." You hear it, but you don't always listen. Wednesday rolls around and the voice is getting a little louder, but you've got things to do. After all, tending to the relationship you have with yourself first fees, well, secondary at times. If your mind, body and spirit are not getting what they need, the problem doesn't go away. The language in which the body communicates just gets louder.

The cycle of living with a chronic "dis-ease," is not only debilitating but it can feel as though the problem is beyond your control. The myth is that we don't have the power to heal and be healthy on a whole level. If feels like a big impossible task to take on, but it only feels that way because you have never fully committed to the journey of healing.

The migraine, is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed health ailments. In western medicine, we understand the scientific definition of a migraine, which is: a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent headaches. Treatment through medication is administered to mask the pain as opposed to addressing the problem at its source. No wonder those who experience migraines feel frustrated.

Ayurveda looks at the migraine as a more deep rooted health issue. Could the problem actually be more of an expression of a sensitive nervous system and impaired digestion? A sensitive nervous system can lower your internal container of resistance to stress. Instead of numbing your migraine, think about treating it at the root.

External stress factors, at times, are inevitable, but the internal reservoir of our health that stems from a place of self nourishment and self connection will give you a heartier foundation. Enhancing your body's ability to digest will help to cleanse, restore and nourish your body back into a balanced state. So where do you begin?

Begin with listening to your body. Create a relationship with yourself that treats your inner health needs as you would treat the needs of a child. When you inner wisdom is whispering that it needs rest, nourishment and peace find a way to provide it with those things. The migraine is your body trying to take care of itself when you just won't listen.

Start by taking these easy steps first:

1. Avoid all processed foods

2. Drink more water

3. Drink Fresh-Pressed Juice Daily

4. Self massage daily to calm the nervous system and stimulate the lymphatic system so that toxins can move through the body and more easily be eliminated.

5. Breathe. Deep breathing oxygenates the blood. Have you ever felt that pulsating sensation during a migraine? The blood in your brain is not flowing at ease, so breath more and free those channels.

Healing is a process. It takes time, wisdom and self love. Ask yourself if you are ready to heal your migraines. It is with effort and understanding that you will arrive at a healthier place, but you must first participate in the process.

Peace, Love and Juice!

Spring Forward!

We are the seasons! When we consciously live in a way that honors our connection to the cycles of each season, we naturally support our own health. Just as Spring represents a time of cleansing, renewal, and abundance, our body is also seeking those things. Our beautiful blooming Mother Earth in Spring is asking us to take notice and to follow her way. The cold dry lifeless earth is suddenly abundant with new life everywhere. We are being called from the dormant nature of winter that adds to our sluggishness, low mood, slow digestion etc., and being asked to shed off the layers we've gathered during winter, in order to find that new life within us.

Cleansing can be a wonderful and beneficial way to keep the body renewed and healthy all year long, but cleansing looks different each season. Spring is the best time to really focus on letting go, eating light and going deeper into a cleanse. Spring is the ideal time for a 10 day cleanse because the body is naturally seeking to renew that vitality that spring gives to us all. Here is a list of seasonal foods so you can eat well this spring! http://www.california-grown.com/PDFs/Whats-In-Season.pdf

Goddesses Know About Nourishment...

Throughout history and depending on the culture, the Goddess has represented many things. Words such as wise, graceful, loving, truthful, fearless, compassionate, connected, and healing all fall within the realm of goddess. What does it take to be a modern day goddess (guys this applies to you too)? Our world is fabricated of opposing qualities, and even though the word goddess relates to the feminine, it is made complete by the qualities of masculinity as well. We tend to live in a world that separates things, when in fact everything is connected through relationship. We all hold within us dark and light, joy and sorrow, masculine and feminine. The goddess recognizes that she embodies it all and from that she uses it as a source for greater awareness. You are always called to be a goddess: to use your calm intuition and heart to guide you, to have compassion for all of life, to stay bold in your truth, and to nourish your mind, body and spirit.

The goddess rises out of the dark to meet the light of the sun. Her heart is open and her belly is empty. The goddess knows that her power comes from intention, practice and nourishment. So just as she fills her heart with love, she also knows that her body needs love: the finest foods of the earth. The vibrant unique nourishment that comes from living plant sources is the goddess's fuel.

All the juice goddesses at Juicey Lucy's have been passionately creating healing, fresh pressed juice elixirs for 20 years. We are in the business of striving to be goddesses, inspiring other goddesses and living with the intention to nourish every part of our being so that we can rise with the sun each morning and be just as radiant! 32 ounces of fresh-pressed juice a day is what it's all about; join us and discover your inner goddess!

Help Increase Bone Density!

Don't let your bones suffer unnecessarily! The body's need for calcium is essential, but a calcium supplement may not be the solution. Instead, treat your diet as medicine. Individuals who consume 5 servings of vegetables and fruits a day have a higher bone density. Let us tell you why...

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism explains that consuming a more alkalized diet can improve bone health by reducing the excretion of calcium from the body. As the body matures with age, it becomes more challenging to eliminate acids produced by metabolic processes. Bones begin to break down and release minerals like calcium in a process called bone resorption as a way to neutralize the acid build up. In general, most vegetables and fruits are alkalizing whereas animal meats and all processed foods are acidifying. This is a natural process and the body thus regains what it needs through diet. That is why it is essential to treat your diet as a means of nourishment.

Our juices are loaded with naturally occurring calcium as well as a long list of other minerals and vitamins. We'll keep your body alkalized, so it doesn't have to rely on the fabric of your bones to eliminate the acidity from eating too many of the wrong foods.

Here is a list of some great high in calcium foods to add to your diet:
Celery, Collard Greens, Arugula, Kale, Tomatoes, Spinach, Oranges, Dates, Figs, Apricots, Almonds, Sesame Seeds, Soybeans
